SUMMARY OF CHAPTER 10

In this chapter 10, "THE BUSINESS OF REPORTS" -INFORMAL AND FORMAL REPORT WRITING. THE PURPOSE OF THIS CHAPTER IS TO DEMONSTRATE WHAT IS A BUSINESS REPORT? , ITS STYLES, PURPOSES, TYPES, METHODS OF WRITING ETC.
Report is a oral presentation or written business documents that provides information, request, funding or approval etc . The purpose of report is to provide information, analyze data and information and to persuade.There are different types of informational reports they are; memos, progess or interim reports, compliance reports, annual reports, policy and procidure reports, minutes etc. Inorder to write report one should use positive language, approprate graphics and be honest, original, specific etc. There are two methods of collecting a data they are; primary and secondary. Examples of primary data collection methods are surveys, experiments, observation, interviews etc and Examples of secondary data collection methods are library, internet search engines, books, specific data bases, authoritative websites, journal articles etc.

SUMMARY OF CHAPTER 9

In this chapter 9, " DIRECT AND INDIRECT COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES " , The purpose of this chapter is to demonstrate what is mean by direct and indirect communication strategies? , Their different types, components and steps etc.
Direct communication strategy is that which states important points quickly, usually in the beginning of message and indirect communicatin strategy is that which delays important points until after they have been explained. There are different types of direct messages they are; request for information, claims and adjustments, directive and policy statement, good news, good will etc. And the components of direct messages are; mainidea, justification , explanation ,details and courtesy close. There are also different types of indirect messages they are; refusals/ denials, collections, social refusals .And the goal of indirect persuasive message are; to generate attention, to arouse interest,to arouse desire, to reduce resistance and to push for action.

In this chapter " DESIGNING MESSAGES WITH WORDS" we can find how to arrange words which makes a meaningful meaning of that words arrangement.
There are different types of verbal styles. They are expressive ,supportive,
dynamic, combative, minimalist, subtextual, descriptive, authoritative, low key and demonstrative. When we talk we uses words, sign language etc which is called verbal communication. We uses various rules during interaction they are; grammatical rules, talking and interaction rules, social rules and semantical rules.Stage fright is one of the most common forms of communication apprehension. Communication apprehension is a experience of feeling anxious or uneasy aboutt communicating with other people. Persuasion is the process of attempting to influence people's behavior, attitudes or beliefs where as Argument is a statement or series of statements aimed at influencing behavior attitudes and belief through reasoning.

SUMMARY OF CHAPTER 5

In this chapter "Creating and using meaning" we can find how we can create and use meaningful message so that receiver can understand easily.
There are two types of meaning in messages they are; intended and interpreted meaning. When we send message, as if on conveyor belt, we assume people understand what we mean.We can create meaning with the help of perception, organization, interpretation, and signs and symbols.There are two types of mesage meaning they are; specific business message and vague business message.
Both the message sender and the receiver have responsibility for effective communication and meaning clarity.

chapter four summary

Listening is act of hearing attentively.
Listening is more than merely hearing words, Listening is an active process by which students receive, construct meaning from, and respond to spoken and or nonverbal messages. As such , it forms an integral parts of communication process and should not be seperated from the other language arts.
Listening comprehension complements reading comprehension.Verbally clarifying the spoken message before, during and after a presentation enhances listening comprehension. Writing , inturn, clarifies and documents the spoken message.

CHAPTER 3 SUMMARY

Before defining a message, we must first define our goal. However many people choose to start by putting out a message without ever considering how its going to affect our target goals.
In this chapter "Creating effective messages" what i learned is why it is necessary to make an effective messages and how we can make it. Well, there are eight steps of communication design . First step is to map out message goals. There are two types of goal they are primary and secondary.Second step is to evaluate your audience.Business audience, public audience, and intimate audience are its types.Third steps is to shape message content. Fourth step is to select channels.Audience, speed, effect, appeal etc areits channels.fifth steps is to acquire resources by researching.Resources can be time, personnel, outsourcing, research, money (capital). Sixth steps is to generate source credibility. It should be relaibility, dynamism, similarity and competence and last seventh steps is to eliminate design flaws which is to eliminate unnecessary information.
If we follow all these steps we can definitely create our message effective which will let our audience to pay more attention

In this chapter ( HOW BUSINESS COMMUNICATES) Author describes in this 21 st centuary what are the direction of business, how globalization occurs, what are the maze of information, How technology is helping us to communicate easily, What are the types of organizational structure should be there in business, What are types of business messages, what are channel of communication, etc.
By reading this chapter, I learned the importance of effective communication in business. To communicate we need to know how communication can be done internally and externally. Internal channels of communication are; Structural channels, human channels and technology channels. Communication network can be done by downward communication, message filtering, and distortion and oneway communication. When there is oral communication network comprised of various employee than it is grapevine. External communication is the exchange of messages between the organization and the external environment. External communication process aregovernment, media, community, stockholders and customers.

By reading this chapter what i learned is ,Internal communication is internal processing of messages, External communication is interaction between atleast two person who concreate a relationship, Business communication is a design and exchange of messages between and among members to accomplish organizational goals, Small group communication istwo or more people who joins togetherto accomplish specific goals, Verbal communication is use of both spoken and written laguage to accomplishmessage goals, Public communication is public lectures presented to group or audience.I learned how the communication works. I also learned the coponents of communication process which is very useful.Intra personal communication can be done by sending message ourselves by self talk, by mental imaginery and by nonverbalbehaviors.

chapter 8 summary

In this chapter "BUSINESS WRITING DESIGN", Business writing focuses on the audience and how they will interpret and respond to the message.
This chapter teaches us what we have to write, how we have to write and how to improve our writing like grammatical correction etc. It also teaches us how to write effective memos, letters etc.
Format for letters and memos can be like : Introduction, Body, Closing and formatting.
When we write we must be from bias language so that writing will be effective when audience listen to our writing.We need to revise our writing before we present in front of audience and edit it if we see any mistake in our writing.In order to improve our writing we need to practice a lot.Email is one of the important channel of communication that transmits messages over the internet which comes under writing.
By reading this chapter i learned many idea to make my writing effective which is important for me n for my career. Beside that i also learned how to improve my writing n how to detect grammatical error, utilization of proper language in writing etc.
