CHAPTER 12, CULTURE (INSIDE AND OUT)

This chapter's main purpose is to demonstrate what is culture, its types, how we learn it?, its workforce etc. Firstly culture is derived from latin word cultura stemming from colore , meaning to cultivate. This culture is most commonly used in three basic senses.First, in excellence of taste in fine arts and huminities, second in an integrated pattern of human knowledge, belief and behavior that depends upon the capacity for symbolic thought and social learning and third is the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an institution, orgaization or group.
Textbook author describes macro Culture as a commonly produced and shared model of reality that communicates how people are expected to behave, think and feel wheare a micro view of organization culture is that exists within the organization's beliefs, values norms etc.We usually learn macro culture through interaction with family, friends and other member of society. A Macro view of culture includes race/ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation etc where as A Micro view of organizational culture includes corporate culture , co-culture, deep culture, values and beliefs etc of an organization.
Every organization has their own culture and follows with their own styles. Customer service, valuing employees, meeting project deadlines, observing dress codes etc are organization's culture.
By reading this chapter i learned alot about the culture and its type,before i did not know much about it.I do have my own culture which i learned by interacting with my family, friends, and other members of society. My speaking styles, eating styles, my behavior and the way i wear my dress etc are learned from my culture. After completing my graduation when i will work in any organization i will be able to follow their culture as i m familar with the micro view of organizational culture by reading this book.
